Solvay
will build a large scale alkoxyation facility
in Singapore for planned start-up in 2015
to serve fast-growing Asian market
in home and personal care, coatings,
industrial, agrochemicals and oil & gas.
About the new facility
- The facility will be connected to
Shell's new high purity Ethylene Oxide (hpEO) unit
located in Jurong Island, Singapore.
- The "On-pipe" facility will be supplied by an
ethylene oxide pipe from Shell to feed the
alkoxylation activities.
- Through alkoxylation process
key monomers are produced serving
downstream surfactant development and manufacturing.
Solvay
- This project is part of Solvay's agressive growth strategy
in Asia and solidified the specialty surfactants production.
- The new facility will enable Solvay to develop
specialty surfactants offer in Asia and
use Singapore as a hub to provide
highly competitive and innovative intermediates to
other Novevare sites in Asia as well as
penetrating further into key Southeast Asian markets
such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
- Solvay's Novecare is alreay
Asia's largest specialt surfactant manufacturer with
11 production sites and
2 R&D centers in Singapore and Shanghai.
- The new plant will produce
specialty alkoxylate surfactants
which deliver targeted cleansing, dispersing,
defoaming and emulsifying performance attributes
in formulation.
- This investment comes after
Solvay's announcement last week
to build specialty surfactant plant near Berlin, Germany
for serving the Central and Eastern european markets.
