Due to the impact of the prolonged economic downturn
on European market demand.
As demand for PVC in particular continue to be very weak
with the company's current over capacity in
chlorine, VCM and PVC,
INEOS ChlorVinyls
has decided to discontinue the production
from three of its plants.
INEOS will focus all UK PVC production at Newton Aycliffe site,
At Runcorn site, INEOS will
1. close PVC small scale production unit and
2. reconfigure its VCM plant to produce EDC intermediate
for internal use
At Wilhelmshaven site in Germany, INEOS will bring forward
3. the closure of mercury chlorine cellroom
INEOS is confident these measures,
along with other ongoing improvement initiatives,
will help secure the business in long term
by improving profitability and cashflow during
these very difficult times.
