the globally leading HDO supplier through
these following measures.
1. BASF will increase its annual global capacity
for manufacturing the chemical intermediates
1,6-hexanediol (HDO)
by more than 20 percent
to more than 50,000 tons per annum by 2014.
2. BASF will further
* optimize production processes
* carry out infrastructure projects and
* enhance its logistical processes.

Use and applications of HDO
* BASF's customers use HDO to manufacture
- industrial coating including lower
volatile organic compound formultions
- polyurethane plastics
- adhesives and
- cosmetics
- HDO also serves as a reactive thinner
in the thinner formulations of epoxy systems
which are used for the efficient production of
rotor blades for modern wind turbines
as well as construction component for
automotive lightweight applications.
