Details
- Explosions were occurred at Nippon Shokubai plant
in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
- Officials at Nippon Shokubai saids the explosions occurred
in a tank for manufacturing acrylic acid.
- A male employee from the plant called the fire department
at around 2.05 p.m. to alert the authorities that
an abnormal critical reaction had sparked a fire,
and the workers were trying to extinguish the fire.
- Nippon Shokubai said the explosion occurred at around 2.40 p.m.
as firefighters were spraying the acrylic acid tank with water.
- The second blast came shortly afterward.
- One firefighter died of burns and at least 30 people
were injured in the explosions, including 19 firefighters,
2 policemen and 9 plant workers,
according to the police and fire departments
