Evonik expands its market position for C-4 products by
- expanding of 1-butene capacity in Marl Chemical Park
by 75,000 tons , making Evonik
the No. 1 provider of 1-butene worldwide
- expanding of butadiene production in Antwerp, Belgium
by 100,000 tons
- expanding of MTBE capacity in Marl and Antwerp
by a total of 150,000 tons
The expansion are scheduled to go on stream in 2015.
The investment costs run into hundred of millions of Euros.

Use and Application
- 1-butene is used as a co-monomer in the production of
polymer resins such as polyethylene (PE) to help improving
the tensile strength of packaging films.
- Butadiene is used in the manufacture of synthetic rubbers.

improve fuel combustion
